There are a few issues.
- My notes are now useless, obsolete, or pretty much all in my head,
- I'm glad my notes will be helping people,
- BoS has legal ownership over them, anyway.
However, I would have been given the option, and I don't like the fact that they're making money from my generosity. Then again, at least they have my older notes, not my uber notes that I gave to my students.
There's also the fact that I don't think BoS should make money off knowledge. Selling knowledge makes me grimace -- especially since there is noone to ask about the notes.
The worst part about this whole business is that BoS actually has to make money. I find it sad that the Admins have poured so much time and money into the place, yet can't find another alternative. If I were rich, I'd probably buy the site and supress the people with some sort of facist rule, so that's probably out of the question.
Anyhoo, it's a moot point. Unless someone can think of a better way for the site to make money, premium notes is it.
I'll add that I understand the situation, as well. I've had to start charging people for my detailed comments and feedback on more than one essay. It's just too hard to know that I could be out working when I'm reading someone's essay... So I can kinda sympathise.
