I think the massive amounts of pyramids and mastabas would have a problem being told that they don't exist.
Have a look at Gae Callender's
Old Kingdom book, I believe it's okay. The problem is that there is no decent OK book - Jaromir Malek's
In the Shadows of the Pyramids is a bit better than Gae's book, I think. But still, it's all pretty shit.
The specialist books (by Kanawati etc) are all great, but I wouldn't bother too much with them...
As for the unification and FIP; just read up a few articles. Maybe I could send you a few. I've done subjects on both the OK and FIP, so I could forward some stuff to you, if you want.
Another good thing to do is familiarise yourself with the main texts of the periods (the OK and FIP here, really), as well as the main evidence for unification. If you want some pointers for that, I'll break open Lichtheim and Midant Reyens.
I think there should also be some resources on it from this site... I remember posting a few up.
