Hello,

In Projectile Motion, is it important to show your full values (e.g. 7.23412445m) or can you just round it off?

Thank you,

Parrot

I think you usually round off

Round off, and use scientific notation when possible.

So you basically don't have to show exact figures, and can write on the paper a rounded value of e.g. 7.23412445m to 7.23 (2.d.p.) or 7.23412445 * 10^3 to 7.23 * 10^3?

Your initial answer of 7.23 is correct, however 7.23 x 10^3 is equal to 7230 and not 7.23 so therefore this is not right. Also, when in doubt in future problems always round to 3 significant figures unless otherwise specified.

Try to take exact values as much as possible...e.g u(x)=50cos(30) instead of 40.3ms^-1 (2d.p).
And try to answer it to highest S.F given in the question not d.p.

Isn't it lowest sig figs? At least I know that this is the case in chemistry

I use e.g u(x) = 50cos(30), but when I get range and stuff, I'm not sure if I write the whole thing in or just rounded off?
