Could someone please help me with the dot point on hybridisation please. I don't really know what hybridisations purpose is.

Are you referring to hybridisation as in mating between two different species of animal or plant? e.g. a cross between a female horse and a male donkey is a mule, which is an animal that has the desired characteristics from both parents. One of the characteristics is that a mule is more robust than both parents.
