I was so glad wen that question came up :D

firstly 1 degree is 60NM (thank you Jules verne :D)

basically, heres what i did :

they are 11 degrees apart so 11 x 60=660NM

660 x 1.852=1222km

Secondly 1 knot is 1nm so 15 knots is 15 nm/hour

so 660 divided by 15= 44

44 hours

and dont worry if u didnt get it its only 1 question out of the entire exam paper :)
and we'll never have to do it again :D

b) i) 12-1 = 11 degrees

ii) 1. Arc length of a circle =
l = central angle/360 x 2 x pi x radius
= 11/360 x 2 x pi x 64000
= 1228.7
therefore approx 1200

2. Nautical miles between sorong and darwin = 1200/1.852
= 647.95

1 nm = 1 knot

647.95/15 = 43.2 hrs

Yes it is possible.

---

I think theyll have a pretty varied scope for the answers as long as its somewhere in the range of 42-45hrs and its under 48 theyll be happy because they have to account for errors in conversion between Km and nM and Knots and nM and Degrees and nM.

As long as the workings correct and follows correct conversions then you should be right.
