Is that really true?
I heard somewhere that Q7 of the 3U paper is foten more difficult than the 1st 6 six questions of the 4U paper.

i.e. if you can do Q7 of the 3U paper, you can 72/72 in the 1st 6 six questions of the 4U??

difficult is a relative word, alot of it is circumstancial, if you can do question 7's with confidence it will be alot easier to do them than get 72/72 in the first 6 parts of 4u (imo), majorly due to calculator / sign errors etc etc

Bear in mind that there is a lot of extra theory for Extn 2, so if you have a problem with a topic (say), but not with whatever the focus of q7 on Extn 1 is, then you may find the Extn 1 q7 harder.

In general, I would say that the Extn 1 q7 is certainly harder than the start of the Extn 2 paper, but I think I'd place the changeover point earlier than the end of q6.

Also, just FYI, Extn 2 questions are out of 15, not 12, so full marks on q1 -> 6 of Extn 2 is 90 / 90, not 72 / 72.

Also, note that full marks in any question on an Extn 2 paper is a non-trivial exercise. Take the 1995 paper - only 30 students (in a candidature of 2537) scored 15 / 15 on question 2, and only 6 scored 15 / 15 on question 6. There were only 2 questions on that paper where more than 100 students scored 15 / 15.

i always think of the rectangles. for every extension topic and 2u topic there are overlapping rectangles of difficutly. the hardest things in the more basic units are always harder than the easiest in the extension. and i also think that its alot harder to get full marks in 4u. u really have to know your stuff.

It's almost impossible. I know of only one person who has scored 120 / 120 on the HSC Extn 2 exam since 1983.
