(a) (i) (1) 2
(2) the most common number of cars possessed by each household

(ii) (1 x 12 305) + (2 x 13 918) + (3 x 3980) + (4 x 233) =
53 013

(iii) 2 735 / 33 171 = 0.082451538
0.082451538 x 360 = 30 degrees (rounded nearest degree)

(iv) $10

(b) (i) more primary school children are driven
more high school children catch the bus

(ii) because parents may feel more confident letting there highschool children catch the bus?

(iii)
2500

(c) (i) this means hardevs score was one standard deviation above the mean, this means his mark was above average

(ii) ???? i didn't know what the answer for this was, i wrote 16% but thought it might have been 2.5%????

Darn, got this wrong too, but I know for a fact that if its a normal distribution anything within a standard deviation of 1 makes up 68%.....the answer would have been 21%

Kinda hard to explain, I'll do a sideways diagram....

----------------------- (S.D.=-3)
---------------------------- (S.D.=-2)
--------------------------------- (S.D.=-1)
--------------------------------------- (mean)
--------------------------------- (S.D.=1)
---------------------------- (S.D.=2)
----------------------- (S.D.=3)

So....everything between -1 and 1 = 68%, then you've got 21% from -3 to -1, and 21% from 1 to 3. Hope this helps :)

Yes but if you look at the graph again, it reads that 1-3 hours is $10

no for the last one we had to find everything above 1 standard deviation so wouldn't it be 16%?

Everyone makes dumb mistakes. I'm sure I made my fair share of them in this exam. I'll join in your singing, if you don't mind

yeh 16%

50% = top half
and above 1SD, is 68%, and half of that is 34%
so 50-34= 16%
if that makes sence??

i think thats rite...??

By all means, jump right in! (*Skips back to board, grabs Lundy by the arm and waltzes off singing merrily.....*

I think I should stop looking at this board for a while, the fact that I haven't looked anything up but seem to know how to do stuff has convinced me that my brain found the "off" switch during the exam and sat on it for 2 and a half hours......:D

Umm, something tells me I got very confused right about here.....isn't the 68% below 1 s.d. (and above -1 s.d.)??? Arrgghhh, so confused!!!
Gonna go over this while I have a ciggie....(maybe I'll be hit by a flash of brilliance? If not, I guess lighting would do....:D)

Well I thought it could have been 2.5% aswell, but I made sure, and I found that it was actually 16%.

If it is above 1 S.D of the mean (not including), then it should read like this:

34% + 13.5% + 2.35% + 0.15 % = 50% ( this is the positive + half)

so if we count all above 1 S.D above the mean, then it should be
13.5% + 2.35% + 0.15% = 16%

Hope y'all understand that:( lol...

I realllly hated Question 26!!!

lolz, question 26, everyone came out of the hall, saing that 26 was really hard, but i didnt find it that way at all

for question

26 a) i) a = 60 000 , cant be bothered for explanation except if someone wants to know why

ii) 1) b = 60000/30 b=2000
2) b = how many ppl leave per minute...

iii) i had t=N-a+b

iv) 5 minutes, since 10 000 / 2000 = 5

v) yeah like i can do that question on here

b) i) at b i drew a True North line, then from that line marked 020 degrees, then the other side of the line towards the line AB is 90 degrees since B from A is due east, 90 + 20 = 110

ii) Sine rule.....dont even know if i done sine rule right

a b
_ _
sine A = Sine B

50 BT
_ _
Sine 40 = Sine 30

77.79 = BT
_
Sine 30

77.79Sine30 = BT

38.88 = BT

BT = 39 m (to nearest metre)

All the answers are exactly what i got, and havent changed....swear on my UTS application....

-60 000 + 10 000 = -50 000
- 50 000 / 2 000 = - 25
therefore 25 minutes?

i just used my formula from the question above?

is that what u got?

connie, there only asking for how long it takes for 10 000 ppl to leave the stadium

if 2000 ppl leave each minute

then it will be 10 000/2000 = 5 minutes

double check that, 5 * 2000 = 10 000

for ur answer, u actually got the answer for how long it takes for 50 000 ppl to leave which is 25 mins
