is the Holy Triple Jewel different to the Threefold Refuge
i came across it whilst learning about Wesak.. they both comprise of the buddha, dharma and sangha, so are they the same thing??

also, how are the 8 precepts, diff to the 5 precepts, diff to the 10 precepts. i know the 10 oprecepts are an extension to the 5 precepts, but since when was there a '8 precepts' ???
is there even any such thing? or did my source of info get confused with the "Eightfold Path'?

any help will be so greatly appreciated :bomb:

*Holy Triple Gem

well that's how i've always heard it.

also, in an attempt to answer your question:

- the five precepts are supposed to be followed by the lay people in day to day life
- the eight precepts are observed during the full moon poya (every month), during 'Sil'
- the ten precepts are observed at all times by the sangha (the monks)

uhmm...
the Triple Gem i suppose is like a noun, in reference to the Buddha, the Dhamma and the Sangha

whereas the Threefold Refuge would be the 'action of taking refuge in' the Buddha, Dhamma, and the Sangha

if that clears it up for you.
thanks that helps a lot and has pretty much cleared everything up !:)
yikes its so confusing.. different sources call it different things.. like ive seen some write 'jewel' and yes ive heard of gem as well.. makes me wonder whether authors actually know what theyre talking about when theyre commenting on buddhism !

haha thanks a tonne
