well im just beginning year 12 work now and well im doing 13 units atm:

English Adv
Software Design
Visual Art
Maths Gen
Business Studies
*tafe 3 unit Retail operations*

Well i get about halfway in each of these class's except English where i am doing pretty bad it seems Coming 39-40 people.
My teacher tells me that i probably should consider dropping down to standard to do better.
I might contribute this to laziness on my part which im going to change this year but i have to decide if i should go down to standard or stay in Adv.
Like my teacher told me if i was in standard i would have come 6th out of 60people in standard so...
Im not sure if i should stick with it or not, i guess i am having a bit of trouble with adv but considering how my brother did the 2003 test and did pretty decent in standard with a upper 70's and as such with his subjects and did pretty bad...
I dont know any help would be appreciated as i am highly confused and have like a week to decide what im doing... Oh well...
Thanks for the read.

Do standard if u're really struggling in adv. You might not have enough time to improve during the year so you may want to consider this. It's much better to get a high rank in standard than to get a low one in adv. Just make sure you get a band 5 or something.

I honestly don't think you should drop from Advanced to Standard English especially if you know that the only reason your marks weren't all that great was because you were lazy. It is very likely that you can improve, if you work harder. I know someone who was coming near last at the end of her Preliminary Exams and topped her school in English Advanced for the HSC.
The problem with dropping to Standard English is that it is highly unlikely you will get a Band 5 or 6. I'm not too sure, so someone will need to back me up on this, but only a very very small group of people get a Band 5/6 for Standard English.
Also, you can't assume that you will top Standard English if you don't put in the effort either.
Good Luck on your decision.

band 5 and six are almost like vip's for advanced english.

however, only 1 person throughout the people who have attempted the new hsc in standard english has ever got a band 6.

band 5 i think you have to be in the top 5% of standard. or you will have to do considerably well in the first paper to be in coowee of getting a band 5.

so if you think you can actually do the work that is advanced, by all means best of luck. if you think you will continue to struggle in it, then just ditch it.

personally, i failed advanced this year, but i knew that i should hve studied for it, but didn't. however, it wasn't all my fault to blame. the teachers who marked the sections in advanced were not markign to any guidelines.

plus my teacher doesn't explain jack shit to us. in other words there is no chance for people to improve unless of course by personal defect. if you can natuarally do it then you wil be able. or unless you go for tutoring, there is no chance.

this is not a general statement, REPEAT not a general statement!!

someone said that only one person at our school in standard english got a band 6 in the last five years- something to think about...
