hey. Is it possible for me to get an overall better mark in a subject at school than someone who ranked 1 (while i am ranked 2)?

Ive got a few subjects where i am ranked second (not a very big gap between 1st and 2nd). Is it possible for me to beat the number 1 ranked person in overall marks, even though my rank was number 2?

Yeah.
For Music 1 last year I was ranked 2nd (internal 90) and 1st had internal 91.
I got 91 external, she got 88.
I still got 91 overall, she got 90 or 89.

In your externals yes...if you beat them by a couple of marks you will beat them but probably not by as many as you would have if the ranks were the other way around.
