Hey all,

I was looking at the 2001 paper, and I'm stumped on how they come up with B for question 8. Its the one about the most economical printer..

I rang the advice line to tell me that IT isn't supported.. grrr..

If anyone could help that would be appreciated

Thanks,

Well its basically the one where it says which printer is the most economical to purchase where a user prints 1000 pages per year for 5 years.

I calculated it to be B but it seems to be A.. maybe I mucked up my calculations

This is the calculation I worked out :-

it says that printer 2 does $3.60 for 100 pages, so I multiplied it by 1000 to get the cost for 10,000 pages. Which worked out to be $3600 and then you add that to $299 price and it ends up being $3899 and i right or have i stuffed something up already?

Then for printer 1, it works out to be $5359 for maintaince and $159 for the printer which still works out more expensive than printer B

Yeah the answer should be B

you multiply it by 1000 to get the total amount it wastes over 5 yrs then add the price of the printer

yep the answer is B

because A surpasses that amount it will be aroun 5329 for A

D we don't need to say much
same goes to C

so it's B

The question was "which printer is the most economical to purchase where a user prints 1000 pages per year for 5 years." Thats what the question said the HSC booklet.

Okay yeah i see where u got B from heeheh. You prolly just times the price by 10 so u will get how much for 1000pages rite?.
But i think u incorporate the initial price of the printer so therefore A is the answer as it comes up with a total of
$211
whereas B's total is $335.

hope that helped buddy.
i assume u take that into account as well, because why would they give us the price of the printer if we wont be using it, but maybe they use it to throw u off but thats the only way i can see u getting A as ur answer for question 8.

okay i did this in class
i got A
5.20 * 10 * 5
+ 159
= $419

5.20 (100 pages) x by 10 to get 1000 ..since we have 5 years times by 5

we add the 159 to it..

do that for the others and compare and realise the answer is A

You wanna know why?

it's just the question was screwed and we mis-red

the table goes

5.20 PER 100 PAGES so times it by 10

= 52 dollars

times that by 5 which is = 260

260 + 159 = 417

3.60 PER 100 PAGES so times it by 10

= 36 dollars

times that by 5 which is = 180

180 + 299 = 479

thus A is the answer

Not really, i think the examiners just know we're inclined not to read every detail part of the question lol
