I never managed to get a proper answer for this dotpoint.

The question is:

Describe the role of a chemist in an industry or enterprise, and a chemical principle used by the chemist. (3 marks)

It's from the 2007 HSC paper.

Analytical Chemist, the determination of what substances are present in samples (qualitative analysis) and how much of each is present (quantitative analysis).
You can choose like between 4 or so i think, this one is the easiest to remember.

dude its in textbook. dotpoint 1 on Topic 3.

get a named scientist ( i got mine from csiro) then see what theyve done and relate the chemical principal theyve used ( e.g. AAS/ASS or molar calculations etc) and then talk about how the need collaboration etc..

Asdfg; hate this thing.

Off to my notes!

An industrial chemist working at a coal testing lab uses a number of instruments and principles in their daily work. Their role may include testing coal for trace elements, for CO2 emmissions and the quality of the coal -- that is, how much energy can be produced by burning a set amount of the coal.

A chemical principle they use includes absorption or emission: That is, when an element is atomised it absorbs or emits a certain wavelength of light. This is used in Atomic Absorption Spectophotometry to determine both quantitatively and qualitatively the trace metals found in coal.
