I really want to do med either at UWS, UNSW, UNCLE in 2008
My school subjects are:
Maths Adv
Maths Ext 1
English Adv
English Ext 1
Modern History
Physics
Chemistry

In yr 12 im probably going to pick up History Extension and Maths Ext.

I have a really bad physics teacher and only 1 person got band 6 in his class and in the other class 15 people got band 6. Should i drop physics, some uni's say on the entrance requirements that chem and or physyics should be presumend knowledge. If i drop physics i can either take up biology or legal studies. I heard the interviewers would score me badly and question me about subjects like legal studies etc.

What physics bridging courses are there if i drop physics at school. Did any of you guys do just chem or bio and chem? To i really need physics for med, will the interviewers scrutinise me for not doing it?

Past & Present Med students could you please post up your yr 12 subjects
Would bio be more beneficial then physics, did the interviewers criticise you on your school subjects?

physics probably doesnt contribute to anything in med, but in physics you develop the mindset involved with understanding concepts, which is important. Biology would be helpful for med, so if u drop physics i suggest u take up bio. why are you doing history? its a waste of time i reckon lol. it doesnt scale well, u may be good at it but it does nothing for med, and it wont push ur uai up too much even if u do well. i'd drop that and take up bio if i were u. im trying to get into med too and im doing bio, chem, phy, 4u maths and adv english.

I find modern history extremely easy, in yr 10 i got 96 in the SC without studying, i've always been good at history 1st at my school and i want to do Extension history as well. Also my careers advisor encouraged me to keep it because it was my most favourable subject and i did well in it.

I'm in UNSW Med, and bio is useful but NOT essential.
Chem is assumed knowledge, physics is not.

Do whatever subjects you like, the interviewers don't care. They look for communication skills, enthusiasm, understanding of the medical profession and other personal qualities, not whether you did legal studies or not.

Play around with SAM to see whether phys or bio will improve your UAI more.

Speedie: What school do you go to (and if you're from SHHS who are you) ?
I'm from the gong as well :)

I would recommend not doing eng ext 1 ...it doesnt scale that much & is a LOT of work...which is why i dropped it in yr 11...lol....Bio & physics are scaled almost similarly (cause of phy=english).
The interviewers dont give a damn about what subjects you did....In the interview, they mainly ask reflective kind of questions...
it's funny how ppl trying 2 get into med do all these community related stuff, Interact, etc (just to get in) and the interviewers dont even ask about them. What is most important during the interview is your experiences, and ability to reflect on them with maturity...(part of being a "reflective practitioner."
