For a) use those existing equations you had to prove a manipulate them to get your answer for c), i.e. sub b=M into both (i) and (ii) then equate (i) and (ii) and simplify and you should get your answer for one of them, and similarly do it for the other one

For your second question I'm guessing to use the product of roots and use the existing answers you have to get your answer for part (c)

Use these if you are still not able to get the answer...

Question A
==============
i) M=1
I haven't done this yet

ii) M=L-1 {c=gamma, a=alpha, b=beta}

One at a time: a+1/a+b=L 1

Two at a time: ab + bc + ac=L
ab +b/a +1=L
b(a+1/a)+1=L 2

Three at a time: b=M 3

2 into 1 ====> b(a+1/a)+1=a+1/a+b
b(a+1/a-1)+1=a+1/a
1-b=(a+1/a)(1-b)
.: a+1/a=1 4

4 and 2 into 3:
1=L-M
.: M=L-1

I think there is a problem with your question (in part b) as ab must equal -A2/4 for you to be able to solve this with real numbers.

Question B
============
i) a+b+a+b=A
2(a+b)=A
.:a+b=A/2

ii) ab+b(a+b)+a(a+b)=0
ab=-(a+b)2 {after factorising}
.:ab=-A2/4

iii) abc=-3A
=ab(a+b)=-3A
=-A2/4 . A/2 = -3A
=-A2/8=-3
.: A2=24
.: A=2sqrt(6)
