Hey i just have 2 quick questions about essays:

1) If you are given a topic to write an essay about and it says discuss ( as in provide to sides to whatever argument) can you give points arguing for and against the exact same thing. ie, can you say: In the book _____________ Mary was the heroine as she did or this good things, then say but in this book Mary wasnt the heroine as she was not known and viewed as a good person in the public eye . Do you get me? or do you argue something completely different for the other side ie , elizabeth was the hero as she.

2) If you are still doing a discuss essay as in provide for and against ( so 2 different thing) how do u set it out? coz doesnt like an essay have to have 3 paragraphs in the body? ( or not???) so how do u split 3 into 2 . Or do u do for and against in each one

I think l understand (sorry if l don't)

In a disscussion you agrue or put your points down about a topic or the answer to a question.

In an essay you put it out as (from my knowledge)

For
Against
For
Against
For
Against
(this goes on for how many topics you have to discuss)

l'm terribly sorry if this is wrong but thats from year 11/10/9 work and my memory isn't that flash.

in the conclusion thou, u would sum up everythin and if necessary ( coz its a discussion essay) u would put in ur own recommendations giving reasons as to why u would

YEAH i finally remembered something!!!

Also girl04, don't make 10 for and 10 against. Point out the main agruement topics and make them go for as long as you can and possibly use the smaller points to back them up. Oh that reminds me you need to write with evidence!

so im like hmmm mixture of essay and discussion?

No worries. Set it out in a debate type thing..thats how l remember.

Maybe its a discussion essay or a discussion within an essay?

Got it. Thanks. Ok its an essay but she wants you to discuss the question inside the essay.

Its like writing an exemplum on the topic "School shouldn't be compulsary". Its still an essay but its in the form of an exemplum.

This is what your teacher is asking you to do but in the form of a discussion and with your question/topic.

Do you understand it now?

yep i think i got it, so i still do an essay intro rite? and conclusion? and the set out is like an essay except i argue for and against.

You do put a conclusion, l'm not sure about the intro part, but l'd say put it in.

you would do it like an essay but your body points will be the for and against arguments.

conclusion you would make a statement or opinion on what youve argued
