I was wondering for people's opinions on the importance of quotes, because I've just read a b3/4 essay in 2001 which doesn't seem to have one quote for prescribed texts. Are they important?

quotes demonstrate sound, thorough knowledge of the text, so if you want to show that you know the text well in terms of the concept you are addressing, of course you should use quotes!
In year 8, when my English teacher first taught me how to write essays ( I mourn the day)
It was always I.Q.E.L.
For all those here assuming I'm an idiot, I'm not. I'm merely too lazy to bother with quotes unless they're really required. TEE for eng adv, but cbf for EE heh
