2 quick questions

when you say a person becomes a rabbi

are they ordained? or is it something else?

also, what is the difference between status in the tradition and gender roles?

before i attempt to answer your question... what do you mean by "what is the difference between status in the tradition and gender roles"?? do you mean status *generally* as in higher and lower castes? or status AS gender roles?

as a side note, i got a female rabbi at my synagogue, and i believe its looked down pretty damn heavily by orthodox communities

really? thats pretty cool. yeah, i know that the orthodox lot aren't too fond of women taking the lead. I think its a good step forward.
