I'm going to a race day soon, and wondering what to wear? I have an old strapless formal dress thats black and white and knee length, and ideally would look nice with closed toed shoes and a little hat. however i'm not prepared to go and buy new shoes or hat etc...

Whats the best fashion for races particularly in winter? (well now, it might be cool)
pants? top?

Any ideas?

how can i dress up?

Never been to one, but I've always assumed that they all dress up in dresses and showy hats..

Oh yeah, and I thought all the ladies didnt feel the cold too.

they look like they dont anyway!
i've never been to the races per say, but i've worked at a couple of race days...i havent been to any winter ones (though the 2 i have worked at were pretty cold), but from what i've seen most girls get pretty dressed up. mind you, family places (think warrick farm) are usually more casual and comfy looking than formal places (like randwick)
if you want to wear that dress, i'd say can find a nice jacket/cardi that matches it (simple, so you can wear it again) and get stockings and closed shoes (i think you'll need them). i dont think hats are compulsory...only get one if you really want to get one (or you find one you adore)

If you're not prepared to buy a hat buy a little head piece, or go to spotlight and get some feathers and stick them onto a clip and make a little head piece that way. Most people do wear headpieces but if you don't want to wear one then that's fine too.

I haven't been in winter but I assume dresses would be the 'best.' However, even with the summer races, anything dressy goes, so dress pants and nice top would do fine as well.

I'm of the opinion that if you're going to the races, you really should have something on your head - even if it's just a flower.

Hat, its all about the hat. Get a MASSIVE hat, or fix up one you currently have so it looks bigger. Doesn;t need to be any god just shove some crappy feathers on it and you should be fine.

ok i went to my race day today, i had a dress and boots/hat etc planned, but it was raining... not spitting but pouring, and freezing. so i changed my outifit to pants and coat and hat... i felt a little underdressed but at least i was warm(er)...

NOTE TO ANYONE PLANNING TO GO TO RACES,
Do not, i repeat DO NOT ignore the weather and turn up in your breezy sun dress and stilletto heels when its raining! are you people crazy!? they a) look silly and b) you will FREEZE to death! there were so many girls today in tiny breezy dresses and high heels with no coat. in the cold and in the mud. take heed all dont do it.
