if you're chinese or Korean they will do that, as they have had major run ins with the chinese government, and the korean refugee population.

I would think it has more to do with it's original empire and it's attitude to foreigners built from there.

racism is gay, just because im a "F*ckin white fella" (thank you Mr racist aboriginal) doesnt mean that i hate other races. being white sucks, asians think that i think they're shit drivers :( black people think im jealous of their peepees :( Europeans (i.e. greek, italian, maltese) think im after their women :(

all because im white

The proportion of Asianz on TV should be proportional to those who attend actin schoolz and actually pursue a career in the industry, and not the whole population. I don't know the figurez myself but I don't think the number of Asianz in actin schoolz would be too high, most of em study commerce, law, medicine and shit. Stereotypically.

Knew a surfie Asian back in high school, oh those were the great dayz. :D

hey, i have never personally been discriminated against (im white) but i have been around when my indian friends have been ... one of them was kicked and sworn at and another time a friend was spat on (this was a few years ago when i was in primary school.. and some adult ppl on the train intervened).. the point is, when kids are discriminated against i think its clear there is still a prob. also when kids discriminate against kids there is obviously a problem cos ppl arent just born racist! they have to be taught racist ideas -- so when kids are racist i guess that means that their parents are
so yeah, i think there is still a prob in australia, but i think it is definitely less then it used to be, expecially since suburds/schools etc. are becoming a lot more multicultural.

Still a problem? You do realise that it is impossible for there to NOT be a problem. in every culture and every nation and every race and every religion, in the past, the present and the future, there will ALWAYS be discrimination and racism. It's human nature. It is inextricably connected to humans.

I don't mean to be rude, but don't get your hopes up of it EVER going away. Not just in white societies, but EVERY society. It's here to stay. Forever. Even the left wing's ghastly plan to inundate intolerant societies with immigrants has not snuffed out racism. It's here, forever more. Quothe the raven, "Forever more".

Not necessarily. There isn't really racist and non-racist people.. There are loud mouths and those who are shut-up by moral virtues. At the core, everyone is as equally as racist.

It's becoming less as we are becoming more multicultral? Or do you mean it's becoming less as white societies are diluted more and more?

As long as people accept the concept of 'race' and identify with different 'races' then the problem will continue to exist.

My parents aren't racist and I am, so that's obviously wrong. And we are born racist, it's part of our self-preservation instinct.

Note that there isn't actually a problem in Australia, we're just told there is for basically no reason at all.

I do think it's natural to be racist and discriminatory... I didn't claim it was not, I do however believe humanity can rise above this through education.

Sorry that wasn't at you, I'll add a quote. And I agree that we need to rise above it because otherwise society isn't going to be very productive.

that doens't mean you were taught rascist ideas by other people apart from your parents. ie your friends, school, etc. Why are you rascist by the way? Can you position yourself in someone elses shoes and think what it would be like to have negative stereotypes imposed on you? Its quite hurtful, but who knows, maybe your for that sort of thing. Maybe with more experience in the world, you'll come to understand rascism in all its forms and effects.

Your mistake is that most asian countries have homogenous asian population.

If Australia was homogeously anglo, then sure the tv stations should reflect this reality.

However Australia doesn't have a homogenious anglo population so the media shouldn't pretend that it does. Australian media is the last hiding place of the White Australia policy.

How do you explain the large representation of minorities in US media then?
Farscape had a diversity of races... Ancients, Sebaceans, Humans, Scarrans...

How can people not accept the concept of "race"? It's pretty pathetic of someone to expect society to ignore such differences.

There will never be a day when someone of a different skin colour approaches a white person, and that white person won't even notice..

So your parents aren't racist, but you claim we are all naturally racist.
