Hey guys, how do I find out the speed of my RAM? I got an extra 256 DDR stick lying around, I am just wondering whether I can add that in.

If you have an extra DDR stick, you *should*, from memory, be able to slot it straight in with little to no problems.

Typically the mainboard documentation you received with the system will tell you what type of memory the board will take. Failing that, if you can identify the specific brand and model of the board this documentation can be retreived online, or you can check for support using http://www.crucial.com/ .
I am trying to see if the two different ram sticks has the same clockspeed. If I remember right, nearly all boards accept DDR, but you can't place two sticks with different clockspeeds.

Most documentation I've seen also specifies the accepted clock speeds. You'd have to talk to someone else about the different speeds thing though, I was under the impression that generally all ram would just function at the highest common speed (The speed of the slower ram).

Okay, whats the worse thing it could happen if I place two sticks of ram (both DDR) with different clockspeed?

I'd guess the machine would run at the lower of the two speeds like I thought, or if that's not the case, at worst it wouldn't boot. I don't see how it'd cause any form of damage, though this is largely speculation based on vague recollection on my part.

Yeah, assuming there is no compability issue (and they're just different speeds), it should run at the speed of the lower one.

It wont tell you about the true nature of the CPU, ironic considering the name though :p

It's fixed now, thanks guys.

I found out both sticks were 333 mhz DDR, so its all good :).
