just wondering if your raw assessment mark scales, as i know of someone who's raw assessment mark average was 77% for business, yet it appeared as a 86% assessment mark on their HSC.

i'm kinda confused and any help would be much appreciated!
that is to say, if you have any idea, don't leave me in the dark.

raw assessment mark doesnt mean shit...its just the rank that matters
so lets say your friend came 3rd in business...and you say he got 86% as the moderated assessment mark in the HSC
that means that the 3rd best mark in the hsc exam was 86% and since he was third, thats his assessment mark

The mark isn't scaled it is moderated. And as Jemsta mentioned it isn't the marks that matter, it is the ranks and the gaps between the ranks that is important.

You could get a hsc mark of 95+ whilst scoring 50% all year in low scaling subject such as Business Studies. Say you come first with a mark of 55 and score 95 aligned in the hsc exam your hsc mark would be 95.

It is the ranks and the gap between the marks. There are no gaps in ranks.

Yer but liek wouldn't they say:

Rank 1: Bob 80
Rank 2: John 70

Yes whilst there is a gap in the marks themselves there is actually a 10 mark difference in the ranks.

Although, your statement seems more logical.
