People keep talking about what they reakon the raw mark will be for a band 6 cut off and stuff. Could some one please explain to me what exactly that means? I still really don't get any of this stuff. I thought to get a band 6 you had to get over 90%, i know i'm dumb, but for example people talk about the cut of for extension maths being something like you get 60/ 84 which goes to 40/50 or something and I really don't get it! Are they talking about the exam mark changing ? Coz I thought that stayed the same. Man, I'm really confused, can some one please explain it to me? Thanks

Erm there are millions of threads about this. But anyway to put it simply a committee looks at the exam paper, and to take your example of 3u maths, decides what raw mark is required to meet the standards of the top band (ie 90%+). So for example they might decide a mark of 60/84 should "align" to a mark of 45/50. Thats how they decide the cut offs for each band.
