The chance that arthur will survive is 0.82. The chance that Jenny will survive is 0.53. What is the chance that exactly one of them will survive?

please show the working out!

arthur survives = 0.82, die = 0.18
jenny survives = 0.53, die = 0.47

to answer the question you hav to consider two cases:

arthur survives and (so you multiply probabilities if its an and condition) jenny dies or (add proabilities if its an or condition) jenny survives and arthur dies.

0.82*0.47 + 0.53*0.18 = 0.4808
