Use oxidation states to decide which of the following are redox reactions. Where redox reactions are involved, indicate what has been oxidised and what has been reduced in terms of the changes in oxidation state of the atoms involved.

a. CaCO3(s) + 2H^+(aq) --> Ca^2+(aq) + H2O(L) +CO2(g)

b. Cr2O7^2-(aq) + 6Fe^2+(aq) + 14H^+(aq) --> 2Cr^3+(aq) + 6Fe^3+(aq) + H2O(L)

a. Ca2+ remains as Ca2+, H+ remains as H+ - therefore, it is NOT a redox reaction.
b. Cr6+ becomes Cr3+, Fe2+ becomes Fe3+ - therefore, it is a redox reaction.
In case b, Cr6+ is reduced and Fe2+ is oxidised.
