quick q? - i'm doin poetry - do i still need referencing?

erm I referenced stuff in my reflection statement, but not in my actual poems, if thats any help... just because poetry is pretty aesthetic and footnotes and stuff breaks the flow of the poem, and just generally annoys me. But... thats just my opinion...
