From Syllabus:

"Each elective in this module requires the study of one prescribed text offering a representation of AN event, personality or situation. Students are also required to supplement this study with texts of their own choosing which provide a variety of representations of THAT event, personality or situation."

Theoretically, you should be able to use *anything* and be able to twist it to what you need it for. However, different texts have different levels of "relevance" (eg Birthday Letters with Sylvia as opposed to Daffy Duck). The more relevant it is, the higher likelihood that the markers will like it (bear in mind you still have to analyse it well).

I rang the advice line and the guy said that they dont necessarily have to relate or provide alternate perspectives on the prescribed text or situation, but they have to link with the broader concept of the module. I do Birthday Letters and was told "the module is Telling the Truth, NOT Birthday Letters." However, you'd want to find good links between the texts of course.
