does anyone reckon "American Beauty" would be a good related text to use?

bend it like beckham relates to educating rita in different ways. here are some examples:
#the Indian tradition of women getting married, having children and taking on domestic duties-eg. cooking etc. relates to Rita how she is expected to live in the same sort of way but wants to break away from that social staus and live her own life.
#the scene when jess first plays soccer with the team. the coach asks jess "where do you play?" and jess replies "in the park" . it shows her naiveity this relates to educating rita when frank and rita first met and frank asks" and you are?" rita:"i'm a what" etc. the characters are not aware of the context of the situation.
these are some exmples....i hope they put you on the right track.

Could y0u maybe give me some more pointers on how Bend it Like bekham relates to Educating Rita? It Would be much appreciated thanks.

Has anyone used: The Herd - Under Pressure? or alternatively 'Only 19'

I am a big fan of their music and id rather choose a song i would enjoy studying/analysing.

Other texts i have seen/studied (either at school or personally) are: "billy Elliot" "My life as a Dog"(swedish film) and "stand by me". These are however all films and therefore i need to choose a differnt text type.
They are all based around young children/adolescents (ie around 13yo or so) living in 'dysfunctional' families and undergoing changes in their lives(mainly due to age-becoming teenagers-but also living circumstances).

any help, feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Into the World father and son

theres this song by cat stevens called father and son... its realy good and it is much like billy elliot... the father in the song wont give permission to his son to amke a transition into a new world.
