It's easy to be generous with other people's money.

Oh please no! Vermin like you shall not hide behind the words of that wonderfully intentioned, kind kind man. Stick to Hayek and Thatcher for your anti socialist quotes, stay away from good people ghost!

No because it's a ridiculous attempt to shaft the one industry that saved us from recession and the one industry that builds up Australian prosperity year after year.
The mining industry worsened our near-recession, they took the hardest hits from the fall in demand from China. It's quite the ironic myth.

My view is obviously yes. Basically the miners are making a shitload out of non-renewable resources, the government is funding the infrastructure to increase their profits...Why the hell shouldn't they pay more? What's more overseas shareholders will make a buck out of Australian resources. The government should tax them and use the money to invest in other industries. Mining could be long-term, but it's not a never-ending industry.

Cue the dickheads I mean minarchists explaining exactly why they aren't conservatives but support conservatives if it means running off a cliff.

oh
wow

and @ your edit: holy fuck
Australia, China ink $10b in deals

Has it struck anyone else that Australia has so many resources and is such a good, politically stable long term mining prospect that for everything they say, the miners aren't actually going to change their actions at all if Rudd's tax is imposed? Not only is it a tax that should be imposed, the miners won't do much about it if it is.

Tax is theft on a grand scale. Whenever possible, I am in favour of reducing taxation - and thus government spending (welfare payments etc)

FDI it literally the best thing EVER.
