RATE OF REACTION

The rate (or speed) at which a reaction occurs depends on several factors:

1) temperature: the higher the temperature, the faster the reaction is bec ause the particles are moving with greater energies
2) particle size: the smaller the particles involved, the greater is the surface area where the reaction can take place and the faster is the reaction.
3) concentration: the more concentrated a solution (or the higher the pressure of a gas) the gaster a reaction will occur. This is because there are more particlesin a given volume to react.
4) catalysts: these change the rate by providing an alternative reaction pathway along which the reaction can occur.

octane rating:

petrol and air mixtures have to explode at exactly the correct moment in an internal combustion engine. if the wrong kind of fuel is used ignition of the mixture can ocur before it should. this leads to knowcking. the octane rating (or octane number) of a petrol is a measure of the anti-knock qualities of the fuel.

Luigi Galvani : (1737-1798) Proposed the theory of animal electricity after his famous frog legs experiment. Similar experiments were performed on dead fellons gave rise to the story of Dr. Frankenstein. Galvanization is the process of coating metals by the work of an electric current as well as treatment with electric shock.

Incomplete combustion: Occurs in petroleum fueled motor vehicles. Incomplete combustion usually occurs due to insufficient oxygen content or out of tune engines. The products of incomplete combustion consist of carbon monoxide (CO) and soot among others.

Ok. Taking the rule of the 'y's from the last game...Where we ended up making it so that you take the 2nd last letter. Because all we could come up with were yeild, yttrium and yeast, and we've already had all those.

So...p

partial pressure: the pressure exerted by an individual gas in a mixture of gases.
