Depends entirely on political perspective, a few communists I've met seemed to be of the impression that I'm some sort of ultra-right wing militaraist or something, then again to these people social democrats are the "right wing"

And those two things aren't mutually exlusive, you can be a conservative nationalist and still be revolutionary, remember national socialism?

I hope Iran gets bombed into the stoneage, and that the only boots on the ground are in-and-out SF units, should be conducted with absolute devastation from the air, like Desert Storm.

Mandela was a conservative anglophile confronted by a pretty radical government. But he didnt just want a return to pre-apartheid S.A. He also wanted ethnic rights so far as the white business interests wouldn't flee to, say, Perth.

The good kind of conservative.

To me, revolutionary is a strong word (dispite his rather heavy involvment in sabotage activites). I think the legal system (justice, equality) broke down with apartheid, so he was justified in acting against it.

To call him a nationalist might be a bit far too. He certainly united S.A. in a way no one else could, but he didnt really set out in the beginning/post-prison to advance any national cause because there was no true sense of nationhood about the place - they were a colony run by a mixed bag of competing Non-indigenous fellows.

Hardly ncap though.

You cannot show a persons political inclination based on two or three issues, it has to be far broader than that, the ultra right is usually anti-democratic and so forth, many things that I'm not. I could show you plenty of "mainstream" politicians or board memebers who hold views such as that

yeh im more inclined to think he was a bit of both. Both terms seem a bit extreme to use. Oh and if you're wondering why I asked, it's because it's the last dot point in the personality syllabus for Mandela and I didn't really know what to say about it!

I think that his ideas were revolutionary in the fact he wanted to dismantle such a long upheld series of anti-black policies, but conservative because he didn't really do anything drastic to schieve his means. This policies when he was President were quite conservative, especially his stance on HIV/AIDS.
