The rio tinto is a science competition I am doing soon, and it is mainly composed of mathematical questions with scientific issues. Here is a question that has got me stuck and have no idea how to resolve: (question 7)

as the depth decreases, the velocity also decreases
as energy is constant, and 1/2 mv2 goes down (assuming constant mass?), the mgh part must go up, so height increases

I heard there was a tsunami question marked wrong in a rio tinto from last year I think. That's why no one (of significance that I've heard about) got full marks.
