One of the themes i look at in my essay is appearance vs reality... but i was having trouble saying how the values and attitudes etc during Stoppard's context influenced his representation of this theme.
I can say he looked at this theme from a post-modernist perspective but i don't know what else to write... any ideas?

Existentialism has an impact, the philosophy of ambiguity. Nothing at all is definite or certain. This impacts the way that Stoppard presentes Ros and Guil's world, and suggests that although the player appears to know what is going on around him, the reality is that nobody has any control.
