'Ruralsexuals' can please the girls too

'Ruralsexuals' can please the girls too
PM - Monday, 13 March , 2006 18:42:00
Reporter: Tim Jeanes

MARK COLVIN: There's a new trend in the bush, the emergence of the "ruralsexual", the country version of "metrosexuals".

In case you're not aware, the term "metrosexual" describes city-based men who groom themselves with great care.

Well it seems now some of their country cousins are joining the trend.

Out go the flannelette shirts and old jeans, in come skin care products and hair gel.

And as Tim Jeanes reports, while they're proving a hit with the country girls, some old-style farmers are saying "enough's enough".

(sound of 1950s song, "he's so fine…")

[continued - see link]
Interesting.

TIM JEANES: Country men styling their hair, maybe even smelling nice? Wait, there's more.
Haha

TIM JEANES: But now I've just spoken to someone who says the girls love 'em.

RUPERT GREG: Well, they might, they might, although girls can sometimes you know, say yes, you know, we really like that sort of man, but I think you'll probably find that most of the girls actually prefer gentlemen who like to be gentlemen, but not necessarily, that er, shall we say, soft around the edges.
Hehe

... Yes, and?

I pluck my boyfriends eye brows and apply mud masks to his face monthly. I think he goes along with it just to keep the peace though.

Actually Generator, I'm insulted. Are you insinuating that rural men didn't give a stuff about their appearances until recently? Considering that the majority of men in rural areas are either farmers, miners or in some form of trade, I think it makes sense that generally they're not into skin care regimes.
When you're up at 5 am, and you finish at 6 pm nobody cares.

That's nice, katie.

For the record, I just thought that it was a humourous piece - not so much the content, but rather the way in which it was presented.

=\
I don't know why I defend the image of the country yokel. I feel sorry for the flanny wearing guys with 5 o'clock shadows and monobrows. :(

I don't alter the shape. I just get rid of the hair in the middle so he has two distinct eye brows.

Well, why stereotype rurals and metros? I mean, not everyone's the same. 'Ruralsexuals' have probably been around for ages, but because it's the year 2006 we choose to notice them. It's a label, really, it just makes it easier for society to categorise people and make their minds up.

I told him today I was always right. I said he wouldn't be able to cut a piece of poly pipe with a Stanley knife, and that he should get the little hax saw.

Did he listen? Noooo.

It is better to learn by experience than by instruction......

Also he wont resent you as controlling if you let him do it his way (he mightn't like you gloating that his way failed though)......

Don't worry, I let him do it his way. And quietly smiled as he went and fetched the hax saw 5 minutes later. I didn't say a word about it. I guess his ego was bruised, so I need not have.
