Yeh The Whitlams have a lot of sad stuff, very talented band. Most songs that I listen to tend to be more musically oriented than lyrics, I look more at skill and sounds than meanings. Meh. Here's a few I reckon are pretty decent.

Metallica - The Unforgiven I
Justin Hayward - Forever Autumn (absolutely beautiful song, very highly recommended)
Stone Sour - Bother
Machine Gun Fellatio - Unsent Letter (already sad song made worse cos of personal reasons)
Jebediah - Nothing Lasts Forever (more personal reasons)
