I didn't get anything in the mail either, I only knew about it from here. I'm glad I voted though, good to see Phil Betts got in.

Only external students and SIBT students get postal ballots.

I think it was absolute bullshit that there wasn't any advertisement around the Uni for these elections. The only thing that even pretends to qualify is a tiny message in the notices section of The Word. One of the things I'm keen on in telling as many people as possible that there are elections, and giving them the chance to find out information before they go to vote. Otherwise it favours those who are good at on the ground campaigning, and people get suckered in by the cliched "cheaper food, cheaper beer" promises that no one ever delivers.

One of the things I want to pursue is to bring relevancy back to Passing Show, The Word, and the SAM website. At the moment I think they're rather superficial, and don't have the support of the full organisation behind them.

Oh, and in a similar vein, the MUSC Elections are on next week. These are the ones whose nominations opened and closed in the mid semester break. Make sure you do vote in those, and get all your friends to as well. You won't see any advertising for them (naturally), but they're the same as the SAM Elections, Monday to Wednesday, outside Marxines at lunch, the Library at night.

Cheers,
Phil

Didn't get to vote in the MUSC elections, they were packed up by ten past one on Wednesday (the SAM elections were still open last week by that time so that's when I was gonna vote yesterday) so yeah, that sucks.

I'm so glad you associate with the 'Liberals' of the SAM board. They're totally the trash of our university politics, and your only liking them because they're Liberal shows what a stupid, exclusive bunch of snobbish people you are. I would vote Liberal if they impressed me, but there's something about 'Liberals voting for Liberals' that makes me sick. Why can't you use the brain that Mother Mary gave to you and vote using it?

Sean (SAM board wannabe and snotty executive of the Young MQ Liberals) understood how much Liberals are hated at Mac, and associated himself with 'The Labour [sic] Party'. I guess he didn't like Liberal's ideals of fat, slimy politicians looking after the brainwashed right-wing religious Christians. As Tim Hendry said '[Sean] knows that us students hate Liberalism, and love communism. Since we're all a bunch of unhygenic communists, we love Labor.'

Students hate Liberalism because most of them don't understand it. They are of the belief that being a Liberal primarily means pursuit of the dollar above all else, and this is simply not true.

Also Liberals will tend to vote Liberal for a good reason, namely that they are a member of the same party because their views on issues are generally similar.

Yes, sorry, I meant MUSC. The whole SAM and MUSC elections being in a week made me typo. (Not to mention this thread is about SAM)

People don't stereotype you, you stereotype yourselves. If you and justin want to claim that people don't vote for you because 'lefties don't understand you', that shows what a pompous bunch of people you are. Ah man, Liberals don't vote for the left because the left suck, but the left don't vote Liberal because the left are idiots. What a pathetic comment.

I love the hypocrisy of criticising people for not understanding you, but you blatently making a comment which shows you have no understanding of anything but your right-wing fat-cat ways.

My other point still stand: It's funny that Sean, high up in the Macquarie Young Liberals, had to deny his political orientation because he wanted to get votes. Maybe he's happy to play Judas just to get on MUSC.

(edit, I did it again >_< SAM=MUSC)

i am a 2nd yr student a mq. and as my sig suggests, i'm a 2nd yr accountant.

i dont have a liking for the fact that i need to have a say in the set up of either sam or musc. i dont care who is president/ceo/etc. thats pretty much it.

i am only at uni to get my degree at the end, and perhaps to socialise.
