To be blunt: converting analog sounds to digital audio, from a soundwave

(Remember soundwave from Transformers? :))

Sound waves are analog. Analog data can be represented as continuous variable quantities (it changes with a particular volume/pitch).

Digital data is represented as digits/numbers (0's and 1's).

Audio is sound that has been digitised

The process of digitising sound is called sampling.

:)

glad to hear you so confident, wish i could say that about myself! unfortunitly all i can say is that the highest band i would most likely obtain is a band 3/4. Hope to hear from you when you recieve your marks Huy, so we know what you got. This isn't really of topic (maybe form the orignal post) as it is all to do with IPT and our HSC. Good Luck all!!!

I won't tell anyone my HSC marks, or UAI.

It's just me... maybe a few people (close to me), but I'll see how it goes.

If IPT is very disappointing, in my opinion, then I'll crawl under a rock and the BOS members (here in IPT) will forget all about me :p :p

I'm not entirely confident, but I would hope for a Band 5 at least (depending on the scaling again).

:)

sorry...maybe I should be more specific.
I know what it is and all (as it says it in the textbook)
But the actual process of sampling.
Is the actual sound wave taken, and measurements taken at specific increments along the wave as to what the frequency is...
And those frequencies are recorded digitally.

Just not sure if I've got the process right.
Am I right?
Do I even need to know this?

Thanks.

You don't need to know this,

only ADC or DAC's.
analog to digital, digital to analog converters.

...you don't really need to know the the process, just the definition and a basic understanding of what it does/the purpose of sampling :)

to get things back on track :)

for sampling it is a good idea to remember the diagrams inside the heinmen textbook

there are around 4graphs.....the curves....if you want to answer the question with full marks, i would suggest you draw out the diagrams one by one and work out your answer around the graphs! it shows that you know what you are talkin about, and if you stuff up the writing you will still have the graphs! that's the way how i did it in the trails and my teacher said that it was perfect, with the graphs i saved so much time compared to other people baffling on with the writing...

Stop Chris Bangle @ BMW
This guy is seriously ruining BMW. If you ever wanted to buy a BMW now is the time, there is so much supply compared to these ugly cars demands.

If you ever wanted to buy a BMW now is the time. There is so much supply of these ugly ugly cars just because of this guys love of ugly designs. BMW are offering huge discounts on these cars. In America you'll find dealers with up to 80 BMW 7 series' just because they are so ugly. BMW is really suffering.

It's the amplitude of the sound wave that is sampled not the frequency.

For CD quality sound 44100 samples are taken every second. Why 44100? Humans can hear sounds within a frequency range of 20 to 20000Hz. A frequency of 20000Hz means 20000 complete waves every second, by taking 44100 samples per second we ensure that at least two samples are collected for every wave within the threshhold of human hearing.

I talk about this stuff in my Prelim IPT text, which is about to be published. You can download a sample of Chapter 2 from our website at www.pedc.com.au
