I often see questions in past hsc and trial papers regarding "the most suitable means of reliable and continuous communication between an orbiting satellite and earth".... I've never seen anything to do with this in text books or syllabus... Anyone have an idea what the answer would be?

Cheers,

Hugh

That section was in the 2001-2002 syallabus. Was removed for the 2003+ syllabus. Don't worry about it. ;)

um I think what they mean by that is how they overcome communication difficulties.
For example, larger satellite dishes, concentrating signals using dish shaped reflectors, using short wave microwaves to penetrate, good and accurate equipment e.t.c

they might also mean geostationary satellites (eg OPTUS satellite) in that it has a period of 24 hours and so it provides a continuous communication between the earth and the satellite
