I'm really afraid that my marker's are not able to read my writing..i tried my best to cross out many words i thought were completely ilegible and rewrote it but i cant do that durng the whole test, time is very limited. Anyone know much in this area? Would they disadvantage me?..

im in the same predicamant as you! But, i have seen other threads already about this, and it seems as though it doesn't really matter, because if one marker cant read it, they'll give it someone who can...im sure they're used to it too...like, ive seen some people with band six marks, and their writing is shocking!

Yes, they will think you're trying to hide your poor spelling =( and it will stop the flow of your argument.

I ran out of time today;

My conclusions for section 3 is totally illegable. If the markers can read my writing, they deserve the marks, not me.

I kinda worry about this too, especially when I start to rush it gets pretty messy. I cross out some words and write them again.
I might scan my writing and see if you guys can read it lol.

I have a serious problem with my writing. Terribly messy, and with my high UAI hopes, I sincerely hope that they won't take marks off for bad writing.

However, I have heard that if they have trouble reading it to a point where it interrupts the flow of it, they type it up and then mark it...

But thats just in extreme cases and my source may be wrong.

Remember they are qualified teachers of the subject, and no matter how bad your writing is, they've probably seen worse.

That's what I try to tell myself anyway.

They'll be able to read it. Don't worry about it.

The BOS employes a forensic handwriting specialist (seriously).

Really?

Well that makes me feel a little better. I am really worried about this. As with everyone else, I tried to improve my writing, but it just doesn't work :(

Don't worry they'll manage to read it one way or another, some of the high range responses are very illegible yet they still got 17+ so it should be okay.

I have never heard of a handwriting specialist being employed by the BOS in my 16 years of HSC masking.

As there are very few essays that are actually illegible they wouldn't need to anyway. I have come across 2 in 16 years that I needed help with reading and one was so bad we gave it 0 simply because after four people had tried to read it we could literally make out about 3 words a page. The other we could work out about 70% with two of us reading it and we aren't sure that what we thought the words were were actually what they were but we awarded the marks on what we thought anyway (I think it was worth about 4/10 and about the same /15 - but then again had it been neater it might have been worth more.)

That being said, if it is hard to read it does upset the flow of the argument and when you only have about 5 minutes to read an essay and award a mark upsetting the flow of the argument is a flaw you don't want to have.
Markers are expected to mark between 11 and 12 essays an hour so that is where I get the 5 minutes from.
