anyone do B science (advanced)? what career opportunities could it lead to? does it differ from normal science degree?
btw, what other degrees can i go for?

The main difference between the advanced and normal course is the name of the degree (and the associated prestige), although advanced students can do advanced and TSP units, which look better when going for honours or postgrad. If you don't make advanced in the HSC, just enrol in normal and if your marks are good enough, you can do the advanced units in second and third year. If you do enough, my understanding is that you will still receive the advanced degree.

The career opportunities with an undergrad degree aren't the best (except perhaps in maths, where you can work in finance), but if you go postgrad, there are a lot more.

It's just a Bachelor of Science, but you're class as the advanced stream. You're required to do a certain amount of units at the advanced level and need a mark of 65 or greater to remain in the stream. For more info, you can check out the handbook. You really need postgrad for science degrees. They're just too general to get you anywhere, you need to specialise.

anyone can do advanced and TSP in first year, as long as you have the appropriate marks, it doesn't matter what the name of your degree is.

although, if you have the marks, just go adv science, it sounds better.

as for job opportunities, zilch.

you don't need to do any advanced subjects at all in first year. after that i think it's 24cp a year, but first year is no different to a normal BSc.

haha fair enough. i only know because i didn't do it because i thought i had to enrol in 24cp for first year and i only had 12 that i could enrol in, and i screwed it up haha.

Lol every person I've spoken to has told me that it's the worst degree they could have picked. I know people who are already planning to transfer to BSc(adv.)

Out of the 3 you have, science (advanced) has the most freedom of choice. I basically get to choose whatever I want, except maths in first year. Though at the same time, that has the downside that I have to make the choice, which is a hard one

if u really cant decide do sci adv. and then do chem and psyc as your some of your units in first year, decide on what u like best at the end of the year and then base your major on one of them. This is what i did/am doing and its definitly the best desicion i could have made.

Don't base your choice on the potential for a career as we learnt in psyc that this will lead to you enjoying your course less as your motivation will not be for enjoyment but for external reasons.
