well from an opinion point of view, I think science at unsw and usyd is better coz they have a nicer brand name and good at marketing their graduates to potential employers. however, you only live 5min from mq. So what you have here is a cost vs benefit decision where u need to compare the lvl of crapiness of mq science with the lvl of utility u get from spending less time on transport. that decision will depend on your personally marginal utility curve and hence we cannot really decide for you.

well if you really keen on science at macquarie, try to get into advanced science but they have cutoff UAI of 95 i guess... well mq has some oustanding research and centre of excellence but anyway you need to contact and ask more within the department.

-=«MČŇhﴊ»=-, just cos you did Econ111 it doesn't mean everyone else will understand "utility" and "marginal this and that". =p

do some research with potential employers?

what's the med science course for anyway? will you have to transfer to usyd to finish it off?

1/ Science at Macqaurie doesn't seem to be very organised. Especially biology.
2/ It really doesn't matter which Uni you go to. Its what effort you actually put in.
3/ I had the choice to go to Syd or NSW but i chose MacUni cause of the atmosphere.
4/MedSci and Bsc are exactly the same course.
5/ If you choose to do MedSc at MacUni, you actually go to Sydney Uni for classes in your final year. (not sure how that works)

i do a BSc and its given me a lot of flexibility that my friends in degrees with set patterns of units dont have. you get a lot of freedom to choose what interests you from a variety of units in a variety of fields, even those only loosely considered science, eg philosphy (and computing :p).

the club mac thing is a myth, at least for science courses, its as full on a workload as science at any other uni. the uni is quite scenic in places, especially around the bar, theres big sortof park with a mini lake and stuff, its nice to sit and chit chat during idle hours. people at mq are pretty cruisy, which can be a good and bad thing, i like it, cause i cant stand student politics or "causes"

which science were you thinking of doing? if you do a straight bsc you can do a variety of units in first year and see which interests you the most going into second year.

thats what i wannted flexibility cuz i am unsure what interests me so i just want to get in BSc but does BMedSc have as much flexibility as the BSc????

that's exactly what I was gonna say. Utility curves are the answer to most of lifes big questions.

I've done a Chem degree at UNSW and a Biol degree at Macq and loved both of them. What you really want to look at is the research areas that you might be interested in. I know this is a bit of a hard call to make at this stage but on a first year level there's not much difference. It's at third year and honours that the big differences arrive. If you're really interested in medical research UNSW is a good choice because of their links with places like Victor Chang and Garvan. It's really worth you doing some research into it before you make your choice.

BUT if I were you I'd think about going to Macq. It's a great Uni, the research I was involved in is world class. And you can't go past 5 min away from home at this stage. Much more time for socialising (and studying of course). With a good UAI and first year grades you can easily change later on.
