Science labs are inflexible in terms of arrival time. You must all walk in within 15 minutes of the start time or you are excluded (no excuses) and have a zero mark recorded. You leave whenever you finish the work (checked by demonstrator) or at the end of the lab (1200 at UTS).

haha you're complaining about a 3hr lab prac? This term I have 3 subjects all involving fortnightly 4hr pracs . I'm looking forward to it Prac's are normally alot of fun because you get to make friends more easily than in lectures/tutes. So quit your whinging!

well i did two units while i was doing my HSC from ACU and it was fairly easy. i got an credit in both and thats without studying all that much for it

How did u do uni units while at Highschool, was it part of ur HSC or something on the side

Mm, I concur that science is very different in university compared to high school. I transferred to a different degree after studying BSci @ UNSW for a year.

4 Hour pracs each unit. Which in first year doing 4 science subjects equates to 16 hours.

On comparison to commerce or other subjects, they spend on average 12 hours a week a Uni and science is greater than 20hours. Pharmacy in particular is stressful and a lot of work.

The main thing about this is that people don't want to spend so many hours in the lab, doing hard work (yes science isnt easy at all). Hence the dropping rates of science students throughout Universities in Australia and the lack of chemist/pharmacists.

Its hard work, long hours and pays shit all.

Yes it is compulsory for any science subject which has a lab component. Unless you major in maths or some sort of philosophy of science, you would most likely encounter lab work.

so if u majored in computing for example, "laboratory" work would only be actual working on computers (as opposed to actual science lab stuff)?

Science = Hours at university.

I agree It's dead set 3-4 hours of lab already.
And more assessments than other subjects
