This toolbar has installed itself on my computer- i think its called searchbar...I tried to get rid of it by deleting it in regedit - current user - and deleting all the toolbars...but its still there...the most annoying thing about it is everytime u open a webpage it opens the search box on the side...does anyone else know how to get rid of this?

Adware. Remove it with anti adware programs like Adaware and HijackThis.

hijackthis is better than adaware for these type of things. Download CWShreder and HiJackThis and AdAware in order to have a spy-free system. Post your HiJack Log here and I will help you eliminate the problem

ok, a lot of people do automatically jump to technical solutions.

you should really try more simpler solutions first, before running other applications:
1. Go to the control panel, look for the program and simply uninstall it.
2. sometimes these hijackers redirect u to their own search pages. There are a few that actually have proper uninstallers on their website. Look at the 'help' section of their page.

if not, by all means, update your spy/adware and run scans, although these should be done regularly even if nothing seems to be wrong.

I hate everything that installs itself if u accidently click "YES" and "NEXT" when u are installing freeware software. Like far out, sometimes the stuff like search bar, just randomly opens up.
Stupid ADS. search bar and buddy icons are the worst ones/ Annoying shit!

Yeah, i hate it when they re-word questions and switch the 'yes' and 'no' about, cos i just click click click

or those stupid spyware removals where u have to type out their stupid code to remove it.

Fortunately that's where Anti-Spyware programs come in, to get rid of the annoying pests that only make themselves harder to get rid of.

Seconded, if you try add/remove programs with no luck, then the spyware tools referred to in that thread are an excellent potential solution, especially in comparison to things like System Restore.

Another thing to try if you're having no luck is to just google the name of the search bar, or if you have found out, the name of some of the files it's using. Generally the first page of results you turn up will be people elsewhere who have already dealt with the exact same problem, giving instructions on how to remove it.
