Much like you I said part A - his time in London fermented his political ideals of permanent revolution (becoming a menshevik at the party congress split etc), 1917 revolution/role as Commissar of War and the permanent revolution theory within his views of the Treaty of BL. Part B - Positive impact towards red army and the Bolshevik consolidation of power in the civil war victory/army itself through Commissar of War and the Revolution (loyalty, bravery etc). Also said how he had a continuing positive impact during his life in exile acting as a symbol of continuation for revolution and communism accounting for the rise of Trotskyists etc - evident in his many works criticising Stalinist Russia

Other factors influenced it (Great Depression and dislike of Weimar).
I argued that Hindenburg had no option but to elect Hitler into power as the nazi party had become so big by then that any government needed the backing of the Nazi party however this wasn't due to a lack of opposition but other factors, as you mention.

i did part b for germany, and was the easiest part. does the fact that most people would have steered away from that question (i was only person in my class i think) mean anything in terms of marking when they do the question difficulty scaling and such?
i did part b) for Germany as well, and yeah wondering the same thing, how having less ppl do this question would affect us.

No, but different topics (ie Germany vs Russia) do affect the scaling/aligning iirc depending on which has easier/more difficult questions.

Oops; Germany was sooo nice*

I did Rise of Hitler question;
I argued that although there was opposition, the opposition was either negligible or put up no resistance. However even if this was the case, it would be wrong to argue it was the only factor; Main points

There was some opposition;
SDP (and other parties) - their attempts to stop Hitler futile due to faults in democracy, nationalism etc (e.g. boycott); Church were but no resistance, later Concordant etc but broken right after . Talked briefly about conservatives and army

Then talked about other impacts but linking it to opposition
Versailles, Faults in democracy - Post war situation linked to nationalism further on, talked about branding of republic with yuck, always opposition to republic- dolchstoffelegende, failure to reform conservatives its affects e.g. judiciary, harsher treatment to left wing (beer hall, hitlers trial unquestionable success) lack of opposition; article 48 and representational constitution: hard to get majority without coalition, troubles esp for SDP, allowed Nazis to thrive, article 48 directly leading to enabling act, completed his removal of political parties (later SA, appeasement of army)

Nationalism: lack of opposition from the German people, engrained in culture, kershaw's idea of heroic leader being carried throughout 1930s, kaiserreich/bismarkian, hitler was able to appeal to, party of social protest

and some other para
hope i and you all did well :}

Lack of strong and organised political movement to oppose Nazism.
Other factors influenced it (Great Depression and dislike of Weimar).

i said that there was opposition to Hitler but it was not united as shown through the amount of Wiemar coalitions which collapsed eg stresemann and i said there were other factors

i thought russia was good
i wrote of the features of communism and then analysed the actions taken by the bolshevicks to make a judgement on whether it was pragmatism or ideology...

any one else wrote it up like that?

I just realised what bs i wrote.
I basically wrote an essay on the failures of weimar and how hitler was able to manipulate the public to side with the nazi party, thus reducing the amount of opposition he had. I talked about weaknesses in weimar government + impact of depression + rise in nazi election votes and related it to how hitler was able to work with these to strengthen his party.
Bad thing was that by the end, i was rushing and forgot to write about the enabling law. :(

for germany i did part A

i took a different approach and argued that yes indeed a lack of opposition helped hitler come to power but there were other factors including:

-the von papen-schlieder rivalry and how von papen convinced hindenburg to give hitler chancellory under the assumption he'd be easily controlled
-Hitlers ability to orate succesfully and stir nationalism amongst the masses, his promises to abolish the much hated TOV and bring "work and bread" to the unemployed
-the oncoming great depression and how the SA assisted the unemployed, also used as a catalyst for NSDAP propaganda
-the successful propaganda campaign initiated by goebbels, instilling that hitler alone could only save germany (fuhrer myth)
-the ability for Hitler to gain suppourt from the bourgeois by providing them with a stance against the most feared communists
-The inability for the left wing parties (SPD/KPD) to form a coalition against Hitlers party in the reichstag in late 1932 meant that power was practically handed to him.
- Hitlers ability to gain a strong support base amongst protestant middle class farmers,a faction much overlooked by most parties
-Hitlers ideology appealed to most germans in the sense that he aimed to abolish class divisions established by the Weimar government

although i mentioned hindenburg was the main obstacle in hitler coming to power as he disliked him ALOT and always referred to him as " the little corporal". He denied hitler chancellory for a long time before he cracked in 1932/33

i hope to get anything above 21/25 guys

WTF why would you even put the enabling act? That's after hitler came to power lol, it's not a reason as to why he came to power man

ye i did foreign policy... looks like communism in theory and practice was more popular... I wrote the essay based in different stages, stating that national self interest was a higher factor in foreign policy. paragraph structure: 1917-18- brest- litovsk, 1919-21- civil war and comitern, 1921-29- leadership struggle and battling ideology- NEP, Socialism in one country, 1929-33 stalinist state- avoid war peace pact with Czechoslovakia and France and lastly 1933-41- non aggression pact
I actually predicted that this would come up so like i focused on it other wise i would have been screwed
