I have a document that I have typed important passwords and numbers, etc ... is there some way I can secure this file from anyone by me ... ie. somehow putting a password on it?

hmmm. i didn't know word had such a function. I usually use a winzip file containing a zipped file(both encrypted ). so no one can find its contents(ie. what files it contains).

Passwording is a bit overkill. If they are THAT important, just memorise them. And if they aren't worth memorising, who gives a shit?

It's better if you use a free program that is dedicated to saving passwords, such as the one fatmuscle recommended. They offer much better encryption than Word.

The types of protection can still be hacked. The most safe way is to write them out on paper and hide the sheet somewhere :p

Actually, the safest place is your mind. If you can remember names, numbers, and facts for School/Uni/Work, then surely you can remember your passwords, too.

internet banking numbers, passwords, all that jazz

use keepass!!!
it's easy to manage all that stuff.

just store ur file somewhere safe. ie, not on a website :p
u can even zip and password protect that file, and chuck it in a fire-proof safe.
