Re: Semester 1 Chatter Thread

I'm supposed to have PE tomorrow. It's our last class of the semester and we're behind, so there's supposed to be a makeup class as well.

Problem is, our tutor hasn't emailed us anything all week. So we have no idea where we're going or what we're doing tomorrow.

Might check old emails and see if he mentions anything.

The tutes for this subject are pretty much condensed Game Sense units on a particular sport. He explains the relevance to us as we go, but we spend most of the 2 hours playing the game.

Awesome fun.

The lectures are a more in-depth explanation of Game Sense theory, and they can relate it to the practice because we've done it.

Re: Semester 1 Chatter Thread

lol i think i cracked the assignment.

the feminist, leftist, right wing, etc., agenda setting approaches aren't actually approaches.

pure agenda setting means that media tells people what to think.

i'm becoming quite sure that anette was wrong in her lecture. I'm also guessing she stole the assignment question from someone else.

The assignment suddenly makes sense if we evaluate agenda setting as media having control over the competing theories, such as that the govt has control, that men have control, etc.

Re: Semester 1 Chatter Thread

havent written a proper conclusion yet, and i'm at 1,600. With my biblio it comes to 1,793 (and I haven't added half my references yet). Fuck, so it's 1,900 with my full reference list.

She's prob too stupid to detect larger margins and size 11 font. going to lie about my word count on the cover sheet. Seriously, 1,100 words + 400 words for reference list is ridiculous for a 25% essay for such a broad topic.

It's actually 1000 words INCLUDING the bibliography, crazy I know.

Re: Semester 1 Chatter Thread

The Social movements essay was so much easier than your essay. We were told to compare and contrast two different social movement paradigms (which she walked us through about three times in the lectures) and then put these debates in the context of a specific social movement

My essay is about 1550 words long, with a 300 word bibliography. I don't think she'll notice - too zonked out on painkiller medication.

Re: Semester 1 Chatter Thread

yeah so she cancelled the lecture. email came 30 mins before the actual lecture when everyone already fucking left home. seriously, wtf is her problem. if she knew she wouldnt be in her other lecture, why couldnt she send us an email. i went to bed late doing her piece of shit essay, and hoping to ask her questions in the lecture since she "Can't email back".

So, now everyone has no clue what they're meant to be doing. If I get a shit mark I'm going to complain to the head of school based on:
* Her academic referencing style which is completely made up. If she used that style, no one would publish her articles
* Her constant value judgments in lectures
* Her lack of supporting evidence for her claims
* Her inability to express viewpoints conflicting with her own: this is academia, you can't just ignore the opposition!
* Her errors in the UoS outline, which include spelling errors, assignment due dates, and the percentages they are worth
* Her conflicting expectations: e.g. present an annotated bibliography, without actually doing an annotated bibliography or making your presentation in that format
* Including the bibliography in a small word count, for a broad topic. Effectively this penalises students for having done more research and not basing their arguments on conjecture
* Her excuse for not emailing us with lecture notes or responding to our questions. She is right handed and can write on the board with her arm, and on feedback sheets. However, why can't she occasionally send out a brief email?
* The lack of warning for lecture cancellations

/end rant
