Guys, i need your advice....i want to drop ext. its annoying the crap out of me, i dont get it, and i know, hands down that it is going to be my lowest mark;

im much better at adv, and my sciences, and well, eng gets counted anyway....so why am i doing it??

with all the time wasted on ext, i can improve my other subjects, imo, its not worth it....

does it really help your uai boost?? help please ! what should i do!?

if you don't like it and can spare another unit, drop it.

the uai consists of the top 10 units, if you know you'll go shit and it'll be a very low mark, then it won't be included in the calculation of your uai. meaning it won't effect it.

oh well, when it comes to uni selections, will uni's prioritise other students over me because they have ext maths?

no, for most courses they just use UAI. you may have noticed that some courses (such as engineering at unsw) have an assumed knowledge of maths ext1 - but they don't reject people if they haven't done ext1.

however, if you are going to be doing a uni degree which has any maths in first year (such as engineering or science), then the extra calculus and trig that you do in extension 1 mathematics is really quite beneficial, and you will appreciate the extra effort when you get to uni.

but in terms of the hsc, the best thing about ext1 is that it boosts your 2u marks. i think this is more psychological than anything else, just because the 2u work seems so much easier. (you also notice a similar thing with people who go to ext2 maths - they all of a sudden become much better at ext1).

so even if you flunk ext1, your 2u mark will probably be much higher than it otherwise would have been.

but of course if you feel that ext1 is stressing you out way too much and is affecting your performance in other subjects, then dropping it is probably a good idea.

good luck and try not to stress too much! :)

well, the extra calculus will be beneficial, but ive already done the course, so can't i tell the uni that? if not, would it be better to keep the subject, but get a crappy mark, even tho it wont count anyway....(mainly for showing on my graduation sheet "ext 1 maths")?
