Setting up a simple CAT cable LAN network between 2 computers (1 Viewer)

Hi,

i effing forgot how to do this simple task lol. Please help. How do can i transfer files between 2 computers using a CAT cable?

Get a crossover CAT5 cable, or make one, and set up the network like you normally would.

That would help if he's trying to get online :p

Manually set each of the computers IP addresses, set the same subnet, set the same workgroup, set different hostnames, enable file sharing.

Hence, gateways must be the same on each PC.

Ok - if your Running Windows XP Home or Professional Editions, run the Network Setup Wizard. This can be found in:
Start > All Programs > Accessories > Communications
You can also find it on the left hand side, if you open up the 'My Network Places' icon that might be on your desktop.

You'll need 2 run it on both computers - this will set all the settings that people were talking about above - based on your network (internet connection or not, ADSL etc etc).
