I have been blessed with (sarcasm) greasy hair. I use Sunsilk Balancing Act shampoo, but it's still greasy again within even a day. And I before I hit my teens I used to be able to go a week without washing it and it looked clean! Girls (and guys?) with greasy hair, what shampoo do you use? How long does your hair stay non-greasy? Any recommendations?

PS: I have found Sunsilk better than Pantene though for greasiness...

you probly have over-active sebacous glands on your scalp.
not much can be done about it.
put talcum powder in your hair.

its so greasy because your washing it too much...your scalp will only produce as much oil as you wash out of it...thats what the hairdresser told me...

so try to weane yourself off washing it so often...try 2, 3, then 4 days between washing

even better, try to wash your hair once a week.
unless if you over load it with products.

but the washing it everyday is probly a factor of the oiliness in your hair

There are a few things you can try but they are not guranteed to work ^^

As sofay has already explained to you, you get greasy hair beacuse of the "over-active sebacous glands on your scalp" - and there are two main causes - 1."you are born with it (hormome)" and 2."hair damaged cause by chemicals and heat"

What you can do is to use a soft brush to spread the oil towards the end, where there isn't enough oil. Maybe try not to cut back on hair styling products a bit as they are often greasy and can build up in your hair. Also, if you use straightening iron - you will (unfortunately) have to cut back on that, too.

Other things you can do include using a conditioning shampoo of some sort (I have never tried one =p but I know that they are available). And if you can afford it, I suppose you can get medication or even surgery for that ;)

id like to point out that sunsilk and pantene are both shithouse.
i used to have really yuck hair that had to be washed every day because it was too greasy. then i started using KMS Silker shampoo and conditioner, and now my hair is perfect. i only have to wash it once every 3 days, but i wash it once every two just so it stays smelling nice. it will set you back $22 each, but those two bottles last me at least 3 months because you dont have to use half as much shampoo and conditioner to wash your hair.
you can get KMS at a hairdressers.

Sounds more like advertising to me =p There is no need to put down Pantene and Sunsilk =) They are not suitable for your hair does not mean they are sh*thouse - maybe it's your hair, not the shampoo?

yeah get off the supermarket shampoos and either go to price attack and buy one of those brands or go to your local healthfood store and look for a brand called [Alchemy] which is SLS free and great!
Another tip, dont use conditioner, it weighs down your hair and could be causing the oily look
if you really have to use it, only rub a little tiny bit into the very tips of your hair, steer clear of the scalp and roots.

no being quite serious now. they are shithouse. i had to wash my hair every day, and my hair was falling out. i went to a hairdresser, and he said those supermarket/price attack style shampoos were causing my scalp to produce excess oils, and stripping away the natural stuff thats meant to be there.
i used kms for like 1 week and there was a BIG difference. any other salon shampoo conditioner combo should be alright, like So...? but dont use that funksta crap thats on sale at priceline. its rubbish too.
as for "advertising" the girl asked for help and im giving it to her. since my hair looks really good now, and after going to a specialist he said my hair actually was MUCH healthier, dont knock it till you try it.
oh and my hair aint shithouse. the layer of silicone that supermarket shampoos leave on your hair is.

Alchemy is generally for people with over sensitive scalps, i.e. they're allergic to the sulfates that are in most shampoos.

Just go to your hairdresser, they'll be able to tell you what type of stuff you should be using. And supermarket hair stuff works for some and not others. So stop with the whole "it's so shit".

I recommend Dove shampoo and conditioner. It's great for oily hair, and it stops your hair frizzing to the shithouse.

To accompany the other arguments abotu Pantene being shit is the fact that it doesn't actually make your hair as healthy and shiny as they say it will. What Pantene does is leave a film on your hair to make it APPEAR "healthy" and such, instead of actually MAKING it healthy.

I wash my hair every day. Not because its overly dirty (sometimes it is depends on how quickly i wash it) but because i like it better. Clean slate, and it wakes me up... i dont feel clean without washing my hair. Obviously I CAN go 2-3 days if i have/want to, but i usually dont.

With that said, i didnt always do this. And supermarket shampoos are not so shit if you dont want to dye your hair. I always have bottles of hairdressers shampoo and conditioner (my fave is Biolage but it changes) and bottles of supermarket shampoo and conditioners in my shower at the same time so i can alternate because that gets rid of the buildup (of one shampoo) that also causes the oilyness.

If you want your hair to last longer, dont wear it out, because you wont play with it as much.

You can get scalp treatments at some hairdressers.

Go get it washed at the hairdresser and then do what someone said and wean yourself off washing... like go a week with their pro wash, then 4 days, then 3, then 2.

Thats all ive got.

to add to this, those models in their adds spend 2 days in intesive hair styling to get their hair looking like that. as for all the people who are on their adds saying "oh i run so and so company and i use it for all my catwalks blah"... that is most prolly just them saying it because they're getting paid. from a been there know what its like perspective, they usually use So...? on their models hair.
