Don't waste your money on something that will snap in half the first time you touch it.
Sure, it may be easy to take ABSOLUTELY ANYWHERE but there are terrible things that can happen because of this.

Save some money, buy a bigger, sturdier MP3 player.
I recommend the brand Creative or whatever it is.

I'm aware of the thin design and fragileness of it but i'm the person that looks after all my belongings, also i dont need like 5000 songs, so the normal ipod holds too much for what i need.

I love the Mini.

Sure, Nano is smaller, but when it's that small, it's easier to lose. I think Mini is pretty much a perfect size. It still fits in your pocket but you can hold it in your hand, instead of between two fingers, scared of dropping it. :p

Also, there was that thing about the screen scratching.

the only thing with the mini is that battery life could be better

I'd wait until all the design flaws are worked out with the Nano... I admit that Apple support is great- they sent me a new iPod Mini after mine had a dead battery... but whilst the Nano is really strong (apparently you can drive over it and it'll still keep playing)- the LCD in a few of the first batch of production were weak... the Nano scratch site which was up before got taken down not too long ago because Apple agreed to fix broken Nanos.

yep me too. when do you think they will come out? i don't want to have to wait a whole year. and when the 2nd gen come out i will want to wait a few months so i am informed on the problems of them before i buy.

i don't think the nanos have had too many problems. the main problem seems to be the scratching, but i will use a cover anyway. i don't think it's a huge problem because it doesn't effect the performance and a cover can be bought.

Why? The only advantage I see of a Mini over a Nano is that it's overall exterior is less scratchable (sp?), some minor connectivity feature differences and that it has a higher capacity. Otherwise the Nano is superior in so many ways. Small size, durability, light weight, good music quality like the others, more physically robust flash based memory, has color display (Mini does not) etc. The Mini has been discontinued by Apple.. there's a good reason for that.. it's been replaced by the Nano (good move too, may I add).

Because with the student discount you can get an extra 2 gigs worth for $70 less (which I don't know if its offered anymore but second-hand ipods would be cheaper).

Maybe after a few months would I consider it, call me a tightarse but a colour screen and unnoticeable carry-in-pocket-weight difference won't persuade me to buy one....just yet.
