Im planning on doing the British Museum's retention of cultural artifacts (because im really interested on the lonely sister but obviously that's not my focus) but i'm just a little scared that i wont find enough resources. the major work is only 2500 words max do you think i will have sufficient resources???
i did my project exactly on this ! my question was actually
Finders Keepers, Losers Weepers: Critically analyse the roles of the British Museum and their complicity in the politicisation of history, and what this reveals about the nature and purpose of history.
i did very well on it (1st in class, entered into hta comp by top 50 school) so i think you should be alright
particularly for mine i looked at:
- the prioritisation of classical artefacts
- the impact of postcolonialism on exhibitions such as the 2019 Eastern art exhibition
- the return of Indigenous spears from Manchester Museum to Anindilyakwa people of NT
- The comparative refusal of BM to return the Indigenous shield from NSW
- Public opinions - Marc Fennell's "Stuff the British Stole"
Pretty much you should have access to a lot of good arguments and ideas. Only negative feedback I got on mine was
"Throughout the Project, you fail to take an aggressive stance for either side of the debate - you hint at judgement of the British Museum yet undermine yourself by making sure to establish a sense of impartiality. While this writing style is very safe in terms of the Project (and has been rewarded), it is unlikely you will excel in competitions as this essay lacks the 'spice' of a severe judgement and is rather a clear, organised and critical analysis of an already widely explored topic."
Sorry for the huge dump bahahaha but yeah i went safer and was rewarded but it could be worth making a big judgement.
